::: Kukup is a small fishing village located around 40 kilometres southwest of Johor Bahru, in the district of Pontian, Johor, on the Strait of Malacca in Malaysia. Since the middle of the 19th century, Kukup has been populated by farmers and fishermen, particularly of Bugis descent. It is famous for its fish farms and several restaurants, which serve the freshest seafood dishes, cooked in various delicious and tantalising styles. You must try the signature chilli crab dish.

::: Several restaurants serving seafood dishes are located along the small street, close to the jetty so you can enjoy a good seafood meal with a great view of the sea. It is famous for its open-air seafood restaurants built on stilts over the water. Some of the restaurants are geared for tour groups, and it is particularly popular with tourists from Singapore.Handicraft and delicacies such as keropok, belacan and cencaluk are available here. Those who love local dishes will definitely find this place a gastronmical delight. Regularly scheduled ferries connect Kukup with Tanjung Balai in Indonesia.

::: In June 1998, the Perbadanan Taman Negara Johor (PTNJ) contracted Wetlands International to carry out an ecological assessment of the Pulau Kukup State Park, in order to determine its suitability as a Wetland of International Importance (Ramsar Site). The study concluded that Kukup Island is a small mangrove area, isolated and vulnerable to change especially due to marine pollution. In addition, Kukup Island only fulfilled 6 out of 13 criteria for identifying wetlands of international importance under the Ramsar Convention. Kukup Island is the second largest mangrove island in the world.
